A Golf trip to Nerja

by Seb Jay

If golf is your major objective for getting away for a while, why not get away to a virtual paradise that combines the best of golfing with other pleasure pursuits that delight the senses. Yes, Nerja is the place for the perfect golf get-away. While not as famous as the other destinations that Costa del Sol has to offer, it is definitely worthwhile for just the same reason.
Golf on my mind - Of course that's what you are here for and it makes perfect sense to head straight for Baviera, just 15 minutes from Nerja, designed by a professional to suit all handicaps, and offering a range of strokes. The breathtaking landscape flanked by the Mediterranean Sea on one side and majestic mountains on the other makes this course unique in a land peppered with golf courses.
About Nerja - There really is more to Nerja than golf and you would do well to take a trip around this sleepy little village. The narrow cobbled streets invite exploration and long walks that lead to delightful surprises and hidden gems for non-golfers. There is a Tuesday market that displays local wares ranging from jewellery to exquisite craftwork. Local eateries and bars abound, especially on Burriana Beach. Walking tours are a Nerja speciality and takes you through exotic locations inaccessible any other way.
Balcon de Europa - This is a balcony on the side of a cliff that affords indescribably beautiful views of the Mediterranean and the sandy beaches nestling it. An avenue fringed by palm trees leads visitors up to this panoramic view. Besides being a tourism icon, it also serves as a focal point for local celebrations. The procession for the festival of San Isidro starts here and winds its way to the famous Caves of Nerja. It is a beautiful sight with the majestic Andalucian thoroughbreds and flamenco dancers, flanked on all sides with food stalls selling goodies from pescaito frito and paella to burgers.
Cueva de Nerja - These are the pre-historic caves of Nerja, a huge cavern of which has been ingenuously converted to a concert hall. It is supposed to have been accidentally discovered by goatherds and ever since has become a must-see attraction which draws thousands of visitors from all over. Prepare to be awed by the immensity of it all.
Getting around in Nerja - It would be a good idea to hire a car to move around in comfort. Whether you are hunting golf courses or simply want to take in the spectacular Andalucian landscape, hiring a car of your choice is the best way to go. Doing it online or along with your other travel arrangements is one way of avoiding long queues and hours of mindless waiting. Nerja is about 50 kilometres from the airport and so having a car waiting for you to pick up on arrival would start you off on the right foot. This can be done in advance at Your-Carhire.com - specialists in Spain car rental services and you are ready to go.

Buying Smart: Getting the Best Golf Equipment

by Nathalie Fiset

If you are a golf enthusiast, you are no doubt a perpetual shopper of the best golf equipment that your money can buy. After all, the best golf equipment will also equal the best game, right? And with the best game on your hands, you are sure to enjoy your time on the golf course more.
Buying the best golf equipment, however, can be difficult if you are a young, beginning enthusiast; if you are a golf enthusiast on a tight budget; or if you are playing golf in an area or country where there are few major shopping districts with even fewer shops exclusively catering to your golf needs. To counter these problems, you will need to know where to get the best bargains on the best golf equipment. You will also need to know what the best golf equipment is, and what the pros recommend you should use without splurging or tearing your wallet apart.
First, do your research before you start shopping. Begin at the very beginning: the history of golf and how it has evolved through the ages. Did you know that players used to tee their way in and out of golf courses with wooden clubs? Did you know that golf carts have since become a major commodity, and have been used everywhere, from small housing communities to major beach resorts? Did you know that both Scotland and China lay claim to the honor of inventing golf?
If you know these, and more, you can actually get an idea of what antique golf goods you can buy. You can look for wooden clubs and display them on your wall, with the rest of your golf memorabilia. You can look for the old metal clubs that had to be fortified with foam in order to keep the outer shell from shattering on impact. You can even look for the non-spherical golf ball that has long been banned from competitions, on account of its self-aligning shape that so favored and disfavored players, depending on the whims of the wind.
If you are of a more practical turn, you can shop for the best golf equipment by knowing the principal players and guardians of the world of golf. In the international arena, golf rules are governed by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, and the United States Golf Association. Both these organizations have been around for decades, manning golf competitions and accrediting equipment - which brings us to the second tip: when shopping for equipment, look for golf balls, carts, bags, and clubs that are approved by the two principal organizations. If you want to play a great game of golf, you will need a set of well-made golf balls and clubs; they may be more expensive, but they are an investment that can assure you a better game for a longer time.
Third, when shopping for golf equipment, do not spend all your money on just one shop. If you have access to a lot of golfing shops within your area, go from one shop to the next until you find equipment that not only fits your budget, but your qualifications for the best equipment as well. In fact, not all golfing shops will carry the same brands of equipment, and neither will they carry all kinds of equipment that you might need. One shop may have many kinds of golf clubs that are not approved for competitions, while another, smaller shop will have just the right golf clubs, but at higher prices.
The key to getting a good bargain is to not only look, but to ask questions. Not only are some equipment shops exclusive carriers of certain brands, they also tend to hire people who are knowledgeable about golf, and who know what equipment is best. Ask these employees questions about a product that you are interested in, and listen carefully, not only to what they say, but to how they say it. If they seem too excited about an ordinary product, then beware, because they can simply be asking you to spend money and add to their store's cash register.
On the other hand, if they are open to making suggestions on different brands that you can try, and if they even go as far as recommending another store, then you can be sure that they can be trusted. The best experts are those who know as many things as possible about the game of golf, and are well-versed with the ins and outs of the equipment business. This brings us to the last tip: look for experts not only in shops, but on the Internet.
Join groups and forums devoted to golf, and you can be sure to get in touch with people who will not only give you advice on what to buy, but where to buy them. You can find not only friends, but even golfing buddies in such groups. If you know where to shop, and if you know how to get the best prices for your golf equipment, then you will certainly enjoy your game better.

Phoenix Golf Courses Part 1

by Jonathon Blocker

Golfing in the Phoenix sunshine makes it a suitable year-round activity for the whole family. You can book Phoenix city golf tee times easily online. You will also see offers for discount Phoenix golf, so that it will be easy for you to enjoy your favorite game often. The game of golf comes with its own jargon, and understanding a bit of that lexicon can make the game much easier to understand.

There are many specific terms for the wide variety of poor shots, for example. A chili dip happens when a golfer chips too short. A wormburner or groundhog killer is a shot when the ball is hit low across the ground, which can cause it to bounce quickly along the surface. If you want to break the rules you might do a foot wedge, when you kick your ball into a better spot. You'll get quite embarrassed if you miss the ball entirely after you swing at it. This event can be called a whiff shot.

If you are new to the game of golf, you might hear more experienced and even professional players using some different terms. A bandit is a player who has a high handicap but plays better than you would expect. After a stroke is taken toward the green, you might hear a golfer say bit, or take a seat, meaning that they want the ball to stop or slow. Not surprisingly, a putting green can also be called the dance floor, and the rough can go by the names of jungle, brillo, or bundi. If a golfer makes a shot where the ball speeds past the hole instead of going in, they call that a taxi.

You can try out all of these useful and colorful words on any of the glorious golf courses that Phoenix has to offer. If you want a challenging day out on the course, head over to Superstition Springs Golf Club. Golfweek Magazine has named it to a list of America's Best Golf Courses, and it offers a number of unique hazards, including water features, large bunkers, and a great deal of rolling ground, adding to both the fun and beauty of this lovely golf course. On the other hand, if Arnold Palmer is one of your golfing heroes, you will not want to miss an opportunity to play at the course that the great man himself designed, the Legend at Arrowhead. Interesting topography is featured at the Glen Lakes Golf Course. It includes pine and palm trees, with the addition of three pristine lakes, that come into play as you travel about this fabulous nine-hole executive course. All of these golf courses and more await you in Phoenix.

Golf Instruction to Improve Your Game

by Nathalie Fiset

If you're going to do something, do it right. This adage applies to anything, including playing golf. Every golfer would love to know the techniques in improving his or her swing. They are willing to push themselves further but some are not willing to practice because they are easily frustrated if they do not get it in their first try.
Golfers usually band-aid their approach in improving their game. This is quite painless but it is ineffective because they are aware of their faults but they do nothing to solve the problem.
Golf swing is only learned by practicing it for about a week or maybe even two. Perfecting your golf swing is not easy. It takes effort. If you wish to improve then you have to be prepared in failing at the first try. You will hit the ball so bad that your swing feels uncomfortable and quite awkward. But if you think about this, it will push you to practice more and develop the coordination you are lacking.
A golfer must have a goal. This motivates him to do better. Sometimes, there are golfers who reach a particular level and fail to improve from there. A study shows that the average golfer can reach this level in only three years playing the game. When a golfer sticks with the same program despite the awkwardness and frustration, then this will not improve his swing.
Try it out yourself. Practice properly - meaning under the guidance of an instructor, if possible - for let's say a month. Soon enough, you will notice that there will be changes in your swing. If not, don't be frustrated and give up. Deal with it by working on the problem.
In order for you to improve, you must be able to comprehend the learning process relating to your golf swing. You may practice for a lot of hours each day and as much as five to six days in a week and not improve at all. The reason to this is quite simple: you were not able to understand the requirement in achieving the improvement that you've been meaning to get.
Everyone is aware that practice is crucial in order to improve golf skills. However, if one practices the wrong way, then one will only get worse. Therefore, by practicing the right way and the right things, one will definitely improve.
The first step in improving your game is taking note of what needs work on. The key here is muscle memory. It takes quite an amount of time to learn simple motions for the body. In fact, it sometimes takes longer.
Therefore, take your time in learning one thing and perfecting it before you move to another.
If you want to improve your swing, know that there are two processes working when you do it. 1.) You have to change your technique in a gradual and not in an instantaneous manner. 2.) You have to adapt to how your change this movement.
The change must be gradual. You should have an immediate goal that will allow you to become a better golfer. But do not rush in perfecting the new technique that you are working on. Take your time to learn it properly.
Muscle memory happens when there is a conscious effort putting the body in a specific position and moving it in a certain way. Therefore, the transition from the conscious action into an action that is already automatic does not need to have too much thought. It is as if the muscles already have their own mind. They can do complex actions and not need the person to exert too much thought in doing so.
Some golfers hire instructors so that they can do their practice swings correctly. They also want to learn a particular golf instruction which professional golf instructors know in the back of their hands. They do not want to be taught the method golf instruction which is the generic swing taught to every student trying to learn golf. They want instructors to work on the golfer's particular needs.
Finally, teaching the fundamentals of golf swing is golf instruction so you have the right to not take in the generic method golf instruction if you feel that you will not be able to improve your swing and later on your game.

Physics and Probability: Is There Really a Perfect Golf Swing?

by Nathalie Fiset

If you are fond of playing golf, whether on a golf course or on your computer, then you might have encountered tutorials on making the so-called perfect golf swing. Your feet have to be a certain distance apart, your arms have to be flexed at a certain angle, and with some strength; and you have to tilt your body in such a way that you let it push the ball in the direction most desirable for your current state on the course. You may have practiced this swing for days on end, and if you are a beginning player, you may have admired the golf swing made by professionals: they make everything look so easy and comfortable!
The true, perfect golf swing is the product of chance and physics. In fact, the condition of the golf ball when it finally lands is the product of so many different factors: the speed and direction of the wind on the golf course, the strength of the golfer as he or she makes the swing, the humidity in the air, even the overall layout of the course contribute to the success of the game. In other words, so many things can go wrong in a game of golf, and a golfer is more likely to fail at his or her attempt to land a hole in one.
What factors go into developing the perfect golf swing? To generate a good swing, you need to be comfortable with the golf club that you are using. Although different golf clubs have different shapes and appear to have different densities, most of their heads will have the same weight. Your swing will therefore depend not so much on the club weight, but on the speed at which you swing the club. The faster the head of your club is as you hit the end of your swing, when it approaches the ball, the larger the amount of energy that you transfer from your club to the ball.
The larger the amount of energy you transfer to the golf ball, the faster it will go, and the easier it will be for the golf ball to override all the effects that wind velocity, wind direction, and humidity can have on it. If the kinetic energy that you impart to the ball is large enough, it can overcome all forces that exert drag on the golf ball, and can allow the ball to land where you dictate it. The best golfers can achieve speeds of about a hundred miles per hour: this entails high energy in their golf swing, and great stamina on the course, since swings can tax on the arms and spine.
If you are seeking to improve your golf swing, then you have to let go of the myths that surround the so-called perfect swing. Some amateur golfers make the mistake of snapping their wrists when they reach the bottom of the golf swing, as the snap makes them feel that they are imparting more power to the golf ball and exerting more power in their swing. However, this sudden snap actually slows the head of the golf club down, and results in much lower power in the swing, as well as lower kinetic energy imparted to the golf ball.
Another myth states that taller, heavier golfers have better swings. The truth is, the best golfers know how to focus on their energy, conserve it for the swing, and move their bodies so that they make the most of their physiology in making the perfect golf swing. Tiger Woods, for instance, can swing his club at a maximum of a hundred and twenty five miles an hour - but he is only a little over six feet in height, and weighs less than a hundred and sixty pounds. He is far from hefty, but he knows where to place his energy and use his strengths.
What are the secrets of a good swing? Experts find that many professional golfers extend their range of movement by reaching far back when they are at the back of their swing. Tiger Woods does this does reach far back, but keeps his torso over his right leg, while still rotating it. As Woods starts the swing, he increases the velocity of the club head through a quick turn of his torso, and a press of his right leg some distance forward. In such a position, experts find that Woods exerts a great amount of energy, but keeps it from being wasted.
During the drive, Woods concentrates the overall force of his body by using his shoulders, hips, and wrists; finally, he makes use of the momentum of the head of the club for his follow through, and rotates his body smoothly as he does so. If you are interested in such a swing, then you might want to do research online and watch videos of Woods, as well as other professional golfers, in action. There are many tutorials available that can allow you to see how perfect swings happen.
The perfect golf swing is not easy to achieve, nor is it easy to diagnose and explain. You will need to keep practicing and concentrating. You will also need to exercise and focus on your body, so that you use your energy in the best way possible - all while enjoying a great game of golf.

Left Handed Golf Clubs - Made With Care

by Martin Haworth

When the occasional ball under or behind the most awkward of obstructions might sometimes lead even a right hander to dream of a set of left handed golf clubs, they are no joke, with just as specific and precise design required as those used much more commonly for right handers.
Not simply putting the shaft on the other side of the head, which might seem a logical enough solution to the layman, the whole thing has to be a carefully designed mirror image and as such, pretty well all parts are specific to left handed golf clubs in manufacture.
For left-handed men and women, adult and child, there is a whole specific range created alongside most of the brands that are made. And when a new, upgraded product is released, these special golf clubs within that brand and range, won't be far behind, if at all.
In addition, although it might be an easy solution for manufacturers, golf clubs for left-handers are not just made in matched sets. No, there are also individual clubs available so that connoisseurs of the game can create their own bespoke sets to get the best from their own, particular game.
Being left handed can be something of a curse to those with the affliction. Whilst they themselves are perfectly happy with it, despite their being disadvantaged sometimes in a majority right handers world, they probably have grown up with the occasional unfair comment, just because they are in a minority (around 8-15% of the population). Sadly, that's the way of the world.
It's still a very substantial number of potential customers and the world's leading manufacturers have ensured that their efforts in making left handed golf clubs are every bit as good as those for right handers.
Yet things are not always as they seem. Choosing left doesn't always make it right! You see some people are left handed for some things and right handed for others. It's a strange quirk of those individuals who might write, right handed, yet use left handed golf clubs on the course, because they prefer it, feel more comfortable and most likely play better that way! Strange but true.
Many well known golfers have played left-handed, yet in real life are right-handed, perhaps more to do with how they were taught not be than their true characteristic. Golfers like Phil Mickelson, a multi-championship winning left handed golfer, even though he too is right handed in real life.
Often, usually because of being forced at school (especially for older people, when schooling was more draconian!), the way people were encouraged to write will be carried through your life, but that doesn't mean it's natural.
So, when there's a choice, like when learning a game like golf, and old enough to make one's own decisions, people defer back to their preference.
Even if a golfer has the capability to be ambidextrous (use both right and left hands as a preference pretty equally), only a certain number of clubs can be carried, by the rules of the game, so a choice has to be made. And it is usually the choice of how they feel most comfortable when holding the club.
In a world of continuing change and one where commercial requirements drive punters to buy the 'next best thing' to improve their game that little sliver more, manufacturers continue to make design changes on both right and left handed golf clubs.
Those changes that develop the technology for right-handers are just as effectively applied when left handed golf clubs are designed and manufactured too.
So, if that's what you need, feel secure in the understanding that the manufacturer of the next set of left handed golf clubs you buy to suit your left handedness, will have applied just the same technology to yours as the more popular right handed sets they sell as well.
