Golf Communities of Hilton Head

by David Carroll

There are a special set of considerations that a home buyer should look at when considering the purchase of a home in a golf community. Hilton Head Island is one area that is rich with golf communities and other gated community options. Golf course communities offer a unique and highly sought-after style of life that usually includes a few nice amenities and more than a few phenomenal ones.
One of the first things that you should take not of when looking at a home in a golf course community is the location of the property in relation to the fairways. Do the fairways run right up to your property? If so is it your responsibility to mow the course? Of course not, but you may want to consider the fact that not everyone can hit a ball like a pro and an errant slice could end up in your new plasma screen TV after making it's way through a plate glass window and several family pictures. Ask yourself, will I have to replace the divots in my own lawn as well as the course? As with any other home purchase; location is key. Be sure that the community that you choose is in close or reasonable proximity to any amenities, education, shopping, and entertainment that you may need or desire. Club living can provide a lot of these things, but it's still nice to get out every now and then.
Another aspect to take into account is the fact that as a member of the community there will likely be fees to pay for the maintenance of the course and club. Something else to think about is the club itself. What kind of services and amenities does the club offer? If you are going to purchase a home in a spa or golf community then you should ensure that the club is suited to your lifestyle. More so than most others, this kind of home purchase comes with a distinct lifestyle attached and buyers should be ready to live life to the fullest and utilize all the assets that their club offers.

Which Flex Golf Club Shaft Is Right For You?

by Golf Club Flex

Playing the game of golf requires the right equipment. But, never has a golfer had more options and decisions to make when selecting the right set of clubs to fit their style. Flex is the amount of bend that a shaft undergoes through the swing - and also has an effect on the position of the clubface at impact. As an avid and experienced golfer for almost 20 years, I'll attempt to give a clear cut and simple synopsis on which golf club shaft flex type is most likely suited for your game.
Flex is the ability of the club shaft to change as force is applied to it throughout the golf swing. Proper fitting for the golf clubs shaft flex is important because without it, the clubface is misaligned at impact and too much/too little acceleration of the clubhead through the swing. The flex ability of shafts is generally broken down into 5 categories: Extra Stiff, Stiff, Regular, Senior, and Ladies.
As a rule of thumb, looking at the distance you hit your driver can give you a general guide as to which flex you may require. Professional golfers (drive 275-300+ yards) require the extra stiff flex; Good golfers (drive 225-275 yards) require stiff; Average golfers (drive 200-225 yards) require regular flex; Senior golfers (drive less than 200 yards) require the senior shaft; and, Ladies require the ladies flex shaft unless they fall into one of the other above categories.
Another important component of choosing the right flex is the smoothness of your golf swing. Smooth swings do well with more flex in the shaft, however a jerky swing (especially when at the apex of the backswing transition) requires a stiff shaft. Most men attempt to overswing, which usually results in a jerkier swing - therefore they may benefit more from a regular or stiff flex shaft. If you are comfortable with the club doing most of the work, you'd be better able to utilize a more flexible shaft.
Lastly, one can sometimes determine the shaft they should use by looking at the common trajectory and direction of their golf shots. For a right handed golfer, if you typically drive the ball to the left, you may benefit from a stiffer flexed shaft since your clubhead is misaligned at impact. However, if you're a right handed golfer and your swing typically goes to the right - a softer flex may be a better match for you to aid in the alignment of the clubface at impact.
I trust that this synopsis will help you as you navigate through the plethora of golf equipment options, and that these simple rules will allow you to better enjoy the game of golf for many years to come.

Why use Video Analysis for the Golf swing?

by Malcolm Maxwell

Why use a Golf Swing Analysis System
Options for Improving your swing
The concept of getting the ball from a tee to a hole in a green is simple. But aswe know it is easier said than done! The trick is to develop a grooved swing tobe able to place the ball where we want to consistently and predictably. Theseare the hallmarks of a winning game and they are difficult to attain unaided. There are several options available for golfers who love the game and wantmore accuracy and distance: Lessons with a professional--the better ones use video! Books and Video instruction Gadgets and Gizmo swing trainers The InternetWithout video analysis can you be sure you are using the right tool and using itcorrectly? The solution is to capture your swing on video and analyse it with a computeranalysis tool. This provides the missing element: Interactive feedback. For thefirst time you can tell the areas where you are making mistakes and get a detailedunderstanding of how you swing the club, and will show if you are doingwhat you think you are doing!
Why Video Analysis is effective?
Consistency and efficiency are critical to a golf swing. Whatever your body type, age, or skill level, if you can improve either or both of these aspects your gameand consequently scores will also improve. You can spend hours hitting balls, but if the swing is inefficient they are wasted hours. If you can increase the efficiency of your swing, you can transfer more energyto the ball with less effort. The result is longer, straighter drives and mid-irons.The less effort used, the less tired you will be and therefore more consistent. If you could predict your ball flight with accuracy, even without gaining moredistance , your handicap will tumble. In the technical areas of the game likebunker play, shots from the rough, and putting consistency is the key to accuracy.Swing analysis systems enable you to get control of your swing evolution by usingside-by-side comparison with your own swing and professionals swings.Consistency, accuracy, and efficiency are all areas that are enhanced throughswing analysis. The interactive nature of computers puts your swing directly into the theory describedin books and videos. For the first time we can compare theory with reality!Without video feedback you are basically blind about your swing movement, leaving only ball flight as the indicator of a successful strike. Without videoanalysis you will never know which gadget or drill helped your game. Why don't we all use them? The vast majority of tour professionals use video analysis. They are nothing newto the world of golf and the better teaches and coaches use them regularly. The main concern was cost, but with the processing power of modern PC's thedemands of video processing can be handled easily. Today, swing analysis systems, camcorders, computers, and software come in all shapes and sizes andcan suit any budget.
Using Swing analysis systems
Motion View software has been developed to provide you with all the tools youneed to control the evolution of your swing. Side-by-side comparison, slow motion, drawing tools, to name but a few.Because of the speed at which it occurs, the golf swing is largely automatic andcannot be changed overnight. The only way to affect the swing motion isthrough feel. The feeling of a swing is the residual impression that is left afteryou have finished your swing. We can all feel when we hit a good strike, but thisfeeling is unfortunately all too rare in a round of golf. We must therefore refineour swing motion to achieve a good strike more often, and increase our feel.Once you have an analysis system, start by comparing your swing side-by-sidewith professional model swings. This will show where you most need to improve.A key fact is to remember we are not all perfect athletes and the idealswing may not be possible due to flexibility and muscle constraints. The models, however, are a good guide to efficient swing motions.Swing development means the ability to compare your old swing with the new.Consider how many times your swing changes over a month. When you have alesson, or are playing really well record your swing, and a month later, whenthe old habits are creeping back and the ball flight is not as good record yourswing again, and compare them on the analysis system. This comparison willgive you a clear indication of where the problem lies.
Cost against benefits
The cost of Motion view is more or less the same as a round of golf. This isnothing compared with the elation of winning a tournament or just the Sundayfour ball. It comes down to enjoyment of the game brought about by a reducinghandicap and better ball striking.Written by Malcolm MaxwellVideo Golf Limitedhttp://videogolf.org

The Proper Golf Swing Helps You To Reduce Lower Back Stress

by Ditto White

An improper golf swing can be the cause of serious back injury mostly in the lower back and this is a common occurrence in many golfers. By learning the proper way to reduce the stress on your lower back while making a golf swing, you can enjoy this game for many years to come. This is because you will not have to experience pain afterwards or risk serious injury. Let's face it, if you injure yourself then you will not be able to enjoy your golf game the way you would like.
Here are some helpful tips for improving your golf swing and reducing lower back stress:
* When you take the golf club to the rear to swing, slow down. This reduces lower back stress. A slower swing will relieve a good portion of the stress occurring at the top of your swing and at the lower back.
* Direct your swing to your hips and shoulders by concentrating on how you rotate on them. The idea is to get all rotation out of your back and directed to these areas. Doing so reduces lower back stress at the point of your swing.
* Shift your body weight on to your right foot when pulling back the golf club to swing. It would be the opposite foot if you are a left-handed golfer.
* Try not to spread your feet too far apart when going to swing and drive the golf ball. Of course, you want your feet spread just enough for a good position to drive properly, but when the feet are placed too far apart, you can cause stress on your lower back. This is because it limits your ability to turn your hips and eventually causes lower back stress. Position your feet about a shoulder's width apart before you go into your swing.
* Do not extend your arms too far out as you follow through on your swing.
When you put these hints into action, you will enjoy your golf game much more as you will not risk back injury and inevitably be under a lot of pain. You may have a serious condition requiring the treatment of a doctor if your lower back pain is persistent. This could be an indication of arthritis, a disc-related injury or a fracture because of the stress. Again, see your doctor because this pain can not be treated by adjusting your swing. It needs to be treated by a physician and there are specialized procedures to correct the problem.

Never underestimate the role of correct golf apparel in a good game. There will be lots of walking involved in playing golf and you will do this under the sun. As such, it is important that you stay comfortable throughout. Finding the right golf apparel therefore is very crucial.
It is easy to find golf apparels in the market. You can find such golf apparels in almost every sports shop. There are also specialty stores for sports gear. Some retail shops and department stores even have their own sports sections where you can easily access golf apparels.
1. Find the Right Fit
People who are fortunate enough to be born with nice bodies can easily get golf apparels in the right fit. More often than not, they can wear the ones displayed with the mannequin models. However, if you do not have the same case, then it is crucial that you be cautious of the sizes and styles of the golf apparel you buy.
Be sure that the clothes you get are in your size. Fit them first before purchasing them. If you can freely move with the apparel then it is a right fit to you. If you did not find a golf apparel that fits your measurement, then it is best to buy the one that is one size larger than your measurement and have it altered.

You need room for mobility. However, buying a loose shirt will also have its disadvantages. A proper fit should be aimed for.
4. The Right Golf Pants
You must know your waist and hip measurements when buying your golf pants or skirts. Keep in mind that the fit is a crucial factor. The length of the pants should also fit right. It should be made of materials that will allow easy bending for the legs. It must not be tight-fitting.

Golf Basics - About Greens

by Jeff O`Brien

Knowing how to drive and putt are not the only things you need to learn about playing golf.
Golf being an outdoor activity you play on a living portion of land, and as in everything else out of doors, Mother Nature loves to play this game.
Grasses are different; you might encounter a plush putting green or a weed patch with little growth at all. The putt can be altered by the texture, length and texture of the grass, and how much grass is actually there.
A true golfer doesnt play only on sunny days with no breeze, it is quite common to see a golfer with an umbrella (to protect the clubs) playing in the rain.
Like any other outdoor activity, the rain changes how you putt a golf ball.
You will also come across a condition that is created by man, that is recognized by few golfers, this is called the "lumpy donut" however this is not a real threat.
In the United States you will most likely be playing on one of two types of grass:
Bent is a cool weather grass found in the northern states, it is soft with fine blades growing close together, and this creates a carpet like texture. It cant take prolonged heat or humidity.
Bermuda is used in the warmer climates; it is a strong weedy grass that handles warmer climates and humidity found in the southern states.
The blades are long, broad, shaggy and sparser; golfers describe it as a wild shag rug which causes the ball to rise and fall in and out of the blades. Bermuda also has a grain, the direction in which the grass grows.
Their differences create very different playing surfaces for golf.
Balls will roll truer on bent grasses and the break will be caused by the slope of the land. With Bermuda your shot can be affected by uneven growth patterns in the grass.
The place to identify how your shots will react to the different types of grass is the practice green.

Five Hot New Golf Destinations

by R. Ritchie

There are so many golfing destinations to choose from, but these five hot destinations are attracting lots of interest. Innovative new courses and excellent facilities in Turkey, Cyprus, Tunisia, Argentina, and British Colombia have created excitement in the golfing world. The attractions include a range of challenging courses, all year round golf, and surrounds that are more exotic than more traditional golfing destinations.
History, culture and golf on CyprusOne of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean, with a warm climate year round, Cyprus has excellent golf courses with challenging greens and fantastic views. The new par 71 Aphrodite Hills course, perched above a beach, is surrounded by protected forest, and is divided in two by a deep ravine. The oldest course on the island, Tsada Golf Club, set 500 metres above sea level, has natural fairways running through old fruit orchards and vineyards.
Golfing in Turkey - the perfect winter breakA golf holiday in the region of Belek, in the south west of Turkey, gives you access to miles of golden-sand beaches and unspoilt natural attractions as well as an exotic national culture. Here are eight excellent courses, many five-star hotels and lots of water sports activities. And the excellent value of a golf holiday in Turkey is a bonus. The main resort of Antalaya, with its 300 days of sunshine a year, pretty parks and palm-lined streets, is perfect for a winter break.
Sand, sun and golf in TunisiaAlthough its hundreds of miles of sandy beaches, bustling markets, and stunning architecture, make it a popular tourist destination, Tunisia is also becoming one of the Mediterranean's foremost golf holiday spots. Affordable accommodation, year-round sun, and a choice of 10 courses, with reasonable green fees, is a very tempting combination. The courses at Hammamet, designed around six lakes and 430 acres of olive trees, include Golf Citrus, with two 18-hole, par 72 championship courses, and the short and demanding par 72 Yasmine. A basic round can cost as little as 25. On the island of Djerba, further south, the resort Tabarka has a 27-hole course surrounded by date palms and overlooking the Mediterranean.
Scenery and golf in ArgentinaArgentina is becoming increasingly popular as an exotic destination for golfers, and golfing facilities are available in most parts of the country. Being in the Southern Hemisphere, summer is from December to March and winter from June to October. The old par 72 Buenos Aires Golf Club, one of the world's top 100 courses, has water features, bunkers and well-maintained greens. At the southeast tip of the country, in Patagonia, the Arelauquen Golf Club, near Bariloche, is surrounded by mountains, lakes of crystal-clear waters. Playing the 18-hole, par 72 course is an unforgettable experience, with views of the summits of Mount Catedral and Mount Otto and the backdrop of Lake Gutirrez.
British Columbia - golfing contrastsThe province of British Columbia, on the West Coast of Canada, is a rugged frontier for golfers, from its desert courses in the interior to the breathtaking mountain courses in the east. Around Vancouver, the Furry Creek Golf Course has ocean and mountain views from every hole, and the Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club was proclaimed the top new course in Canada in 1994. The four championship courses at Whistler includes the Jack Nicklaus designed Nicklaus North Golf Course, and the Chateau Whistler Golf Club, a pre-eminent mountain course. For contrast, try The Dunes Golf Course at Kamloops Golf Club, where lush fairways have been carved through sand that was once a riverbed. With four different sets of tees, The Dunes is both fun and challenging.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Golf Balls

by Frank J. Peter

Size of the ball
The "Rules of Golf" says that a golf ball's diameter must be a minimum of 1.680 inches / 42.67 mm. A smaller ball would fly much further than a larger ball. The reason for this is simple: with a smaller diameter the ball has less air resistance, or in other words, it displaces less air as it flies. Because of this, most manufacturers produce golf balls with the minimal diameter (1.680 inches / 42.67 mm).
Weight of the ball
A golf ball's weight must not exceed 1.620 oz./ 45.93 g according to the "Rules of Golf". The heavier the ball, the greater its momentum, and the less it would be slowed down by air resistance. Hence it would tend to fly further. For this reason most manufacturers produce golf balls with the heaviest sanctioned weight of 1.620 oz./ 45.93 g.
Compression Rates
In the manufacturing process, some two-piece, and all three-piece balls are rated by their compression measurements. This is done by pressuring them with a standard weight
Balls that don't deform at all are rated Compression 200, while balls that deform by 0.2" or above are rated Compression 0. These are the two extremes, and between them balls are rated in intervals of 0.001 inches. The Standard Compression rate is usually 90 or 100. the higher the compression rate the harder the feel, and vice versa. Almost every ball is subject to a compression rating. Compression rates of 80 and 100 are also found.
However, manufacturers are not bound by an official standard. Hence one manufacturer's compression rate of 100 can be different to another manufacturer's compression rate of 100. This can mount up to a 3.5 point difference in either direction. In addition, some balls don't even have the compression rate printed on them.
According to a host of surveys, low speed swing players are better off using balls with a Compression rate of 80. Players with an average speed swing should choose Compression 100, and Compression 110 is best for high swing speed players.
The weather should always be taken into consideration when deciding on compression rates to use. Low compression balls are best for colder weather, while high compression balls perform better in cold water.
Tips for choosing the right balls for you:

Distance balls are designed to fly further and with more accuracy. This means you will be less likely to land in the rough, in a hazard, or out of bounds. Distance balls have their drawbacks, however, as they will be harder to stop on the green. Mid to high handicappers should favor a distance ball.
Optimum Performance in Your Approach
Spin balls are made with outer layers that take on more spin when you strike them with angled club faces. Drawing or fading around obstacles and hazards therefore becomes easier, as they will bend more to the left or right. They also take on more backspin when struck with a lofted club - this is important, as the balls will therefore stop more quickly on the green.
Whilst spin balls used to be made with fragile outer layers that were prone to damage, this problem has now been largely averted with the introduction of solid multilayer construction, replacing the old flimsy balata covers.
Getting More Control
Distance balls designed to stop quickly when on the green, but with minimum risk of slicing or hooking are known as control balls. The Nike One and Titleist Pro V1 are members of the new generation of balls that are so versatile they will perform in any situation.
Balls for Slow Swingers Known variously as Ladies or Senior balls, these balls increase driving distance to improve the scores of players with slower, less powerful swings.
Choosing the Right Putting Ball
Differently designed balls will roll for different distances on the green. As a rule of thumb, harder balls role further. The difference is more than you would think. Teaching professionals recommend that you putt with the same kind of ball all the time, as this will help you to calibrate, feel, learn and reproduce the connection between stroke strength and distance. As most balls aren't perfectly balanced, they won't roll absolutely true, but higher quality balls will be generally more likely to stay on course, due to higher standards of quality control during manufacture.
Affordability
Try to always play with the same balls that you practice with. So if you can't afford to practice with a high quality ball, don't switch when playing competitions. A ball that has been overused will no longer be spherical, and so is no good to you. Play balls that you can afford to replace regularly.

Clone Golf Clubs - Are They Worth It?

by Martin Haworth

Let's face it, golf can be a pretty costly hobby to get into. And whilst no-one wants to pay any more than they need to, golfers worldwide want to ensure that the tools they use are going to enable them to play to their full potential, thus maximizing their enjoyment of the game, not to mention success.
This is where clone golf clubs have found a significant part of the golf club market.
With the quality and performance meeting the exacting standards of their branded cousins these days, there is no reason to feel concerned that your value-conscious purchase will be anything like substandard. Value, in your golf club purchase, does not mean you have to compromise at all these days.
Certainly, clone golf clubs are now manufactured to the same high standards as the better known brands, with great care being taken from design, through materials sourcing to manufacture and delivery.
From a technological point of view, just as much energy is expended as you would expect for the more well known brands. Yet clone golf clubs are followers of design and not innovators as such. The leading brands set the standards and the clone brand manufacturers follow.
It's important to recognize that your financial outlay, even though it might be lighter on your pocket, will be still buying an excellent product. It's just that costs are typically between 50-75% lower than the corresponding brands. Since most manufacturers used shafts and grips from the same sources, it's down to the club head where the differences are seen.
Remember too, that manufacturers of clone golf clubs have to be very careful to observe patent and copyright laws, so there will be differences.
Legitimate clone golf club manufacturers produce clubs which have similar design elements to branded clubs, but are considered "distinct and different" enough, without breaching relevant registered patents.
In fact, clone golf club manufacturers work closely with the leading brands to ensure that they fight off the worse threat to their industry, that of counterfeit goods, illegally branded and passed off as originals - an increasing problem in many industries.
So, why would you ever buy a well-known brand, if on value and performance terms clone golf clubs are as good as they seem? Here are a few reasons:-
1. You get leading-edge technology, design and materials innovation.
2. You might just feel that you need to have a set of well-known clubs in your bag for reason other than performance, such as status when golfing with your company president.
3. It might just be that some players get extra confidence by spending all that cash on a branded product, in the belief that they will play better using these clubs.
Unlikely, but true!
Enough reason for you? To pay double or more for a quality of club that is second to none and with a posh and well-known brand name? Maybe - it is, of course, up to you.
In truth, as long as you have a reasonable set of clubs, it's much more likely to be the technique you use, rather than something that costs twice the price, that makes the difference. Clone golf clubs will, without question save you money, without any compromise on quality.
So, if you are considering your next set of clubs right now, but can't really justify the most well known, then don't feel that you will be less well served if your purchase is for a brand new set of clone golf clubs, rather than something with a name you might see more on your TV screen.

How a Golf GPS Unit Can Help You on the Course

by Korbin Newlyn

A golfer's most challenging aspect of the game is judging the distances of various parts of the golf course. In addition to the importance of knowing how far you are from the hole, it is also important to know the distances of different parts of a fairway are as well as managing your game effectively. A golf GPS unit can give you an advantage in in this regard.
For instance, if you are standing in the middle of a fairway, you may see a marker that tells you you are 150 yards to the middle of the green. However, if there is a water hazard in front of the green, it will help to know how far you have to hit the ball to at least clear the lake or how far it is to the front of the lake to keep your ball from getting wet. A golf GPS unit with that particular course available can help you determine which club to use in which circumstance.
Naturally, a golf GPS unit will only be of use if a golfer is any good at the game. Knowing you are standing 136.2 yards from the center of the green will not help you hit the ball straight or keep it from flying into the water or sand trap on either side of the green. However, a golf GPS unit can help you find out how far into the woods your ball penetrated.
Practically Any Golf Course You Can Imagine Is at Your Fingertips
The majority of the time, you can hook your golf GPS unit into your computer and by signing up with a service you can download just about every golf course in the country, making available to you as many golf course maps as your golf GPS system will hold at any one time. So when you are on the course playing one of your games, you can take out your golf GPS unit and have all the information about the course you are on available to you in an instant.
Perhaps you are on a fairway with a hard dogleg, and you do not want to over drive the corner and make it harder to hit the second shot towards the green. By using your golf GPS unit, you can closely estimate which club to use off the tee to land in the middle of the fairway or to either side, giving you the best possible position for the next stroke.
Instead of having a professional golfers walk the course before a professional match begins, making calculations and notes on numerous distances for them to use during a match, many professional golfers have begun to take advantage of the information provided from their golf GPS unit to stay on top of their position.

Good Golf Clubs Can Help Your Score

by Martin Haworth

The actual set of golf clubs that you own, doesn't matter to your golf club membership. Whether they are brand new, branded golf clubs, hot off the designers workbench; a set you found second-hand on Ebay, or even those hand-me downs you found in your grandfather's loft. It doesn't really matter.
In fact as long as they are accurate and in reasonable condition, the clubs are probably the least important part of your game. Technique and you are the elements that make the biggest difference when you are out there - with every shot.
That said, each of us will have preferences when it comes down to the golf clubs that we buy, cherish and use.
In fact, one of the biggest selling points that branded golf clubs have is the confidence that comes from knowing that you have a great set of clubs in your bag. The psychology around playing a great round is highly important, as we all know!
Some players decide that off-the-shelf golf clubs are not quite what they want. Whether it might be for personal reasons, such as their height, for example, they feel that what they need is something slightly more unique to them, so they opt for custom made golf clubs.
These are made by specialists, although they need not be too expensive as they don't have the panache or goodwill of the well-known brands.
So for some, finding someone you develop a good trusting relationship in to make your custom made golf clubs could be a vital challenge in improving your game.
Whatever decision you make, having a set of clubs that you love can make all the difference. By starting off with kit in your bag that you know is of great quality and the only fine-tuning you need to make is you, will ensure that focus is in one direction.
The quality of your golf clubs can be forgotten and you can get on with concentrating for every shot.
'Good', as a description for your golf clubs is rather arbitrary. Quality and accuracy are the critical factors. This makes them 'good' enough for you to play a decent game.
Whether they are 'good' enough to meet the stinging demands of your partners set, by comparison is, if course, a whole other ball game.
Truth is, it's all too easy to blame the golf clubs you have in your bag and focus less on your own performance.

Buying Discount Golf Clubs

by Walter Ballenberger

Discount golf clubs are certainly a temptation for many golfers since the price of a complete new name brand set can be in the $1,500 or higher range these days. This article will discuss various ways of procuring discount golf clubs, and the pros and cons of doing so.
Know Yourself- Get Fitted Properly
Before laying down a chunk of cash on golf clubs, it is imperative that you know what clubs to look for. I suggest a club fitting be a certified professional club maker. That is an investment every serious golfer should make, but less than 10% actually do this. And by the way, trying out a couple of different clubs at a Demo-Day does not constitute a proper club fitting. If you purchase discount golf clubs and think you have saved a bundle, what good is it if the clubs are wrong for you? Thus, if you are looking for a discounted driver, for example, you should know exactly what kind of clubhead, loft angle, shaft, club length and grip are right for you. If you know all of this, then and only then does it behoove you to purchase any clubs, be they new, used, or discount golf clubs.
Ebay Auctions
I have heard that Ebay is the largest seller of used cars in the U.S. right now. I don't know if that is a fact for certain, but they sell a lot of golf clubs as well. A search today for "golf clubs" yielded over 15,000 active auctions. So you have a lot to choose from on Ebay. You must know exactly what you are looking for, as discussed above. If you find just the right club or clubs, be sure to check out the rating of the seller. If the seller has good ratings from past auctions, it is probably safe to assume he or she is honest and you can send them money without much worry. If there is any doubt, forget it. You must be as confident as possible that the seller is honest. Of course this goes for any Ebay auction, not just for discount golf clubs. For your convenience, some Ebay auctions are listed on this web page and several others on this site. If you click an Ebay ad on our site and then make a purchase, we do make a small commission (full disclosure). This helps offset some of the costs to run the site and doesn't affect your purchase price in any way.
Golfsmith
I've always liked Golfsmith and have built a good number of clubs using components purchased from them. They have an excellent web site with tons of information. You can certainly save money buying components from Golfsmith and building the clubs, if you are up for that. Golfsmith has a lot of good instructional information as well regarding club building. If you have had a proper club fitting and know what to purchase, this is a good option. It's really not that difficult. Golfsmith also has a trade-in service, and you can get a discount on a new set of clubs by trading in your old ones. This also means they have lots of pre-owned clubs for sale. Check out the pre-owned section of their site, and you can find some pretty good deals. You can pinpoint what you want by using the search box on the site. You have two levels of protection here, the established integrity of Golfsmith and the brand of the clubs your are buying.
Discount Golf Clubs at Pro Shops
I recently was in a local pro shop and they had a new Cleveland hybrid for sale for half price. The reason it was half price was because it was last year's model. Golf pro shops have outdated equipment on sale all the time because they want to get rid of old inventory. The company, Cleveland Golf in this case, surely made a few tweaks to the clubs from one year to the next, but there probably isn't anything close to revolutionary (unless you believe the marketing pitch), and last year's model will work just fine. But, as always, that's only the case if the clubs fit you.
Discount Web Sites
Watch out here. Many discount clone or knockoff clubs look good, but if you don't know better they were probably made in a low quality factory in China using inferior materials and workmanship. Unless you can be certain the clubs were made in a factory with high quality materials and manufacturing processes, it's best to pass on the deal. What we are looking for here are discount golf clubs, not garbage golf clubs.
And remember, get yourself a serious club fitting by a certified clubmaker. You'll get more out of your game whether you are buying the most expensive set of brand name clubs or a set of discount golf clubs. He can also probably get you into an excellent set of custom made clubs along with the fitting for about the price of just buying a brand name set without any club fitting. I also recommend reading Tom Wishon's excellent book "The Search for the Perfect Golf Club".

Attain The Perfect Golf Swing

by R.T. Bucher

I was watching the U.S. Open on Saturday and I was absolutely amazed at the skill level of the PGA pro's. Not only were they being tested mentally, their swings were being placed under incredible stress.
Even under constricting stress, their swings always repeated themselves. It was like a watching a child on a playground swing. Over and over the same golfers repeated the same swing.
I noticed that all of them excluding a few had the same type of arc and width. Watching on television, you could see the club shaft going back and through the back shoulder. You can see it in every PGA pro's golf swing. Look closely, you will see the club shaft, basically dissecting the back shoulder.
On the downswing, the arc and width of the swing remain the same. Once again, the club shaft dissects the back shoulder, on the downswing.
Ninety Nine percent of these guys are using the same simple repeatable swing. The simple swing is the main reason these guys are pros.
If this type of swing works so well, should'nt we all be using this swing method. Hey, if you want to shave strokes of your handicap, this must be the easiest and best way to swing a golf club.
I wanted have a swing like this, so I Googled the search term "repeatable golf swing". I was hoping to find articles or free lesson by golf teachers, who regulary post tips online.
I was completely suprised when I found this great product. The Simple Golf Swing. It teaches you how to have a repeatable swing, one like you see on TV every weekend. The Simple Swing will take your golf game, to another level. You will shave strokes off your handicap and you will begin hammering your buddies, on the links.

Pezhekee National is a Hidden Gem Among Minnesota Golf Courses

by Dana Buttenhoff

As I travel around Minnesota discovering great places to play golf I like to share with you what I uncover. What I am going to share with you today is the location of the longest public golf course in Minnesota. As you travel northwest on Interstate 94 from the Twin Cities to Alexandria you will exit on state highway 28 and make your way to Glenwood. As you observe the only stop light in town, turn left onto state highway 104.After traveling about 1 1/2 miles you will come Peters Sunset Beach Resort. You have now discovered a sleeping giant of a golf course and it's name is Pezhekee National. This golf course has evolved over the past four decades to what you will witness today. Hitch up you pants, because you will need to bring your best game to tame this monster.
If you are a long ball hitter and are looking for a challenging Minnesota golf course, this is the place to play. Pezhekee National measures 7,263 yards from the championship tees with a course rating of 75.2 and a slope index rating of 138. I played from the middle tees, which was a challenging enough experience for my game. The middle tees play at 6,592 yards having a course rating of 72.2 and a slope index of 132. You have to be prepared to face four par-4 holes over 400 yards when playing from the middle tee boxes. The shortest par-3 hole measures 151 yards. The other three par-3 holes measure between 185-199 yards. Another interesting bit of local history on this Minnesota golf course is that each hole is named with a Native American Indian name, most revolving around the folklore of Princess Minnewaska and friends and enemies of her tribe that made this region of the state their home.
Pezhekee National is a Minnesota golf course that makes you consider risk-reward options. Aggressive play can come back to bite you if you hit an errant shot. You cannot blindly go into all the par-4 holes and hit a driver. There are many holes where calculated distance control, especially off the tee, is vital. If you simply want to play mindless golf and "grip it and rip it", this may not be the Minnesota golf course for you to play if you want to score well. On the other hand, if you are patient and play with a strategy you will have birdie opportunities. A perfect example of this is on one of the new holes, number 11, also known as Yo-he-wa, which is a 381-yard par-4 from the middle tee box. This hole plays to an island green. If you play your tee shot properly and the wind is not swirling you can have a birdie opportunity. On the other hand, if you don't place your drive properly or you get too aggressive on your approach shot double bogey or much worse is a definite possibility.
An interesting feature at Pezhekee National is the "19th hole". I know what you are thinking, and this is not a bar. Though there is a small clubhouse with a patio where you can enjoy a cold beverage after your round, the "19th hole" at this Minnesota golf course is exactly that, an additional hole to play after your 18-hole round is complete. This is a nice little 140-yard par-3 hole that was part of the decommissioned holes from the original nine. This comes in very handy to break a tied score or to see who buys the frosty cold beverages as you make your way down to the clubhouse.
Pezhekee National at Peters Sunset Beach Resort is an easy 2-hour drive from the Twin Cites area northwest mostly on Interstate 94 then concluding on one of several state highways leading into Glenwood. An excellent value in a family or group golf vacation would be to use Peters Sunset Beach Resort as a home your base and play unlimited golf at Pezhekee National; then make day trips to any of the other area golf courses within a 45 minute drive from Glenwood. Visit their website at www.petersresort.com for additional information on their Sports Special Package. If you are interested in being a daily fee player and not stay at the resort, the fees are quite reasonable. You can play 18-holes Monday through Thursday for $30.00 and just $35.00 Friday through Sunday as well as holidays. Golf carts are available for rental at $28.00 for 18-holes or $64.00 for all day. The all day fee comes in nicely when taking advantage of the Sports Special Package.
The pace of play at this Minnesota golf course, as is true for many of the rural golf courses, is excellent. We played our 18-hole round in just over 4 hours. I encourage you to take the opportunity this summer and visit any of the over 300 Minnesota rural golf courses for their excellent value, beautiful scenery, abundant wildlife, brisk pace of play and friendly staff members.

Golf Digest "Radical Golf Swing" Review

by DEREK BEAULIEU

This month's Golf Digest's Magazine front cover exposed a new radical moved being taught by Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett.(Read it here)http://www.golfdigest.com/instruction/index.ssf?/instruction/gd200706stacktilt.html
I have to say it has caused quite a stir in the golf chat rooms and locker rooms. The honest truth about the article is that it is a good move, one produced by the likes of Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, and even Canadian legend George Knudson.
I wouldn't recommend this move with beginners except if you have exceptional hand eye coordination and athletic abilities. I would recommend it for established low to mid handicap golfers who are struggling with accuracy especially off the tee, especially if you have tried everything else.
I believe I do this move and this is what I feel when I am swinging the club:
1. Has I move the club to the top I feel has though my head is moving down towards the ball and my spine stays center. Again this would contradict %90 of all golf methodologies however you can create some awesome power once you get the hang of it.
2. On the way down I am just reversing what I did on the backswing and trying to get my body out of the way of the golf club, which would make me lift up and out of the shot. Now most instructors would think that the ball would go dead right, however if exaggerated you can pull the ball dramatically to the left, as we all know, a pull, it can be very powerful. Watch the best forehand tennis players of the world and you can see this move although hitting they are hitting horizontally, their right leg straightens, and left leg goes out towards ball. Thru the ball their body or spine pulls up to create some awesome racquet speed.
